KOI POND was the centerpiece of Boglárka Nagy’s 2022 exhibition, Rising Sun, and is one of her largest paintings. In Eastern cultures, koi symbolize good fortune, abundance, prosperity, perseverance, and success, while the image of a koi swimming against the current also evokes the overcoming of obstacles and the pursuit of continual progress. The painting’s distinctive power lies in the interplay between figuration and abstraction. From a distance, a swirling scene of koi and water emerges; viewed up close, its details dissolve into an almost abstract composition of color and form. The intense contrasts of blue, yellow, and red create a dynamic, vibrant effect, while the movement of the fish evokes flow, energy, and the continuous cycle of life. This limited-edition, numbered fine art giclée print reproduces a powerful contemporary artwork that unites Eastern symbolism with a bold, modern, and richly painterly visual language.
